Her Story

About Denise Mayer

Denise Aguilera serves as an Account Manager at Unisource Solutions in Pico Rivera, California. With 18 years in the corporate furniture industry since starting in 2008, she began as a receptionist and progressed through multiple dealerships. She spent a decade specializing in project management before her recent promotion to account management, returning to her original company as a boomerang employee. Denise holds an AA degree and earned her OSHA certification in August 2025. She attributes her professional success to taking that first step even when feeling insecure about what lies ahead, supported by her strong faith and a very supportive family. Among the best career advice she has received is that it is never too late to reinvent oneself, a lesson she applied after a layoff by taking six months to decide her path and reentering the workforce in her 40s. She advises young women entering the industry to believe in themselves and in the women standing beside them, to help others advance, and to keep moving forward without leaving anyone behind. Denise values showing up, following through on commitments, and simply getting the job done, noting that she genuinely enjoys her work. She acknowledges that bidding processes bring uncertainty, as wins and losses both provide valuable learning that strengthens her skills as a sales and account manager.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Denise Mayer

01What do you attribute your success to?

Taking that step even though you feel insecure and unsure of what's up ahead, but just taking that first step and believing in yourself. I have a very strong faith that took me forward, along with a very supportive family.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

It's never too late to reinvent yourself. I went back to work after a layoff and took 6 months to figure out what I wanted to do, knowing that you could still reinvent yourself in your 40s.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Not only believe in themselves, but believe in the woman that's standing next to them, and help the next one reach to where they're at, and just keep charging and not leave anybody behind.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

When you go up for a bid and you've put in all this work, you're unsure whether or not you're gonna get it, and sometimes you win them and sometimes you lose them. But with each win or loss you learn so much and it only makes you a much better and stronger sales and account manager.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

To show up, to do what you say you're gonna do, and follow through. Just getting the job done. I really enjoy what I do.
