Her Interview
Ten minutes with Denise
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being willing to learn, asking questions, working hard, and not being intimidated. My mentor Roy Hager taught me a lot and helped me gain confidence in a male-dominated industry.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice came from my mentor Roy Hager who taught me the industry and encouraged me to learn by doing things like crawling in trucks to figure out parts.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be afraid to learn. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't let people's opinions of you being a woman slow you down. Just let them know that you know what you're talking about.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is the lack of personal interaction due to computers and online systems taking over customer service. It is becoming less personal, and I prefer phone-based interactions.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value hard work, knowledge, patience, personal connection, helping others, perseverance, and family. I enjoy helping people and making sure everybody is happy.
