Her Story

About Denise

I've been in real estate for 40 years. The first 20 years I was an agent working primarily with builders and developers. Then I transitioned into resale. I co-owned a real estate company for 7 years. I've been a managing broker for over 20 years and now primarily coach. Before real estate I had my own design consulting firm doing large-scale site planning, resort design and development. I got my master's in landscape architecture from Texas A&M around 82 or 83, where our small group helped rebuild the program and I led a project for the government of Jamaica that went to the World Bank.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Denise

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think just having a really good foundation from my parents, believing that I could be anything I wanted to be.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Put your systems in place so that you have a program to work from, so that you can spend more time really getting to know your clients and your customers, because it's all about relationships.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Set your goals and believe in yourself. Find someone to mentor you. This business is not gender-related, and women tend to do a lot better than men in real estate.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

A high level of uncertainty with buyers and sellers based on global influences, economically, and with the industry changing.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty, transparency, vulnerability, high-quality communication.
