Her Story

About Derria

Derria Money is a dedicated social services professional who has been active in her field for approximately two years. She launched her career with an internship in a reentry program in the DFW area, where she supported individuals returning from incarceration as they navigated real-world challenges. She then transitioned into her current role at a nonprofit, working with the homelessness population and focusing on single mothers. In this position, Money conducts service and discharge planning, helps clients address barriers including childcare, transportation, and fleeing abuse, and supports their path toward stable housing. She also incorporates well-being activities to help clients rediscover personal interests and hobbies beyond parenting. Money earned her bachelor's degree in social work with a minor in rehabilitation studies from the University of North Texas and is pursuing her master's in social work at Texas State University. She has been recognized on the dean's list multiple times and has received butterflies recognition at her workplace for going above and beyond. Money is a member of the Oak Cliff Business and Professional Women's Club, through which she volunteers by adopting schools and families and supporting back-to-school programs in the Dallas area. Her interest in the helping professions was inspired by her high school volunteer supervisor, Ms. Carrie Petis, at Buckner International.
