Her Interview
Ten minutes with Deshanique
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to God first. I had a line lead that saw me and gave me opportunities because women sometimes slip through the cracks in a male-dominant industry. He saw my hard work, dedication, and willingness to learn, and gave me the chance to lead others.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Always take advantage of every moment and every training or opportunity given by your job, even if you feel it's not needed right now. It builds your resume and skills so when a position opens, you have the training, and you can implement overlooked things to improve workflow.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Take advantage of every training and keep a positive outlook. Women, we can do anything and never sell yourself short or believe that just because you're in a male-dominant industry that you can't do it. Maintain a positive attitude, seize every single moment, and even when you get tired, strap your steel-toe boots up and go get it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Opportunities include filling in for my line lead, attending meetings with operational manager and GM, speaking on Zoom calls, learning the financial backend, and working with quality department. Challenges include working with different attitudes and negativity, setting standards, dealing with constant instability from temps changing daily, and the fast-paced hectic nature of production.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
God is most important as I take Him into every door and start my day with Him, which gets me through the day with calmness. Maintaining a positive attitude, positive outlook, open mind to change, accepting constructive criticism, and being willing to go the extra mile for training. Projecting positivity to the team even when machines or days are challenging.
