Her Story
About Desirae
My first major in college was public relations and international communications, but I ended up switching and landed in cinema and media arts production. When I graduated, I got really interested in the world of consulting, and my first role out of college was at McKinsey & Company, where I was supporting about 8 to 9 different consultants across different industries. As I continued to provide administrative support, I stumbled into this opportunity through a networking event where I got connected with a company's CFO. He said they were looking for an executive assistant at their PR and marketing agency, and when I applied, it seemed like an amazing fit. I ended up tumbling back into that first course of study that I pursued in college. Now, I provide administrative support, serve as a CRM administrator, and provide operational oversight. I manage inboxes, book travel, manage events, and ensure all our systems are up to date so our teams are meeting and exceeding expectations and keeping all our clients happy. I focus on building the systemic infrastructure to support the work we're doing on large scales, keeping our data safe and organized, and learning how to weave AI into our project management and customer relationship management systems. I also manage vacations, paid time off, operational expenses, and vendor approval processes.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
If you have an idea, form it and pitch it. Don't wait for permission, don't ask if it's a good idea. If it's something you're passionate about and that interests you, go ahead and put it together as if you're going to be presenting it in front of a board the next day. A lot of the times, my most valued contributions have been an idea that sprung up while I was going through my day-to-day, that I fleshed out and buttoned up, that when it came time to implement, created a lot more impact on time tracking, on project management, than my typical scope of work might have entailed.
