Her Story

About Desiree

I’ve spent the past decade building my career in the multifamily housing industry, an industry I’m incredibly passionate about. The relationships, communities, and people within multifamily are what continue to inspire the work I do.

Today, I work in business development for a landscaping company where I partner with multifamily, commercial, and industrial properties to help improve curb appeal and create welcoming, well maintained environments for residents and clients.

I’m an active member of the San Antonio Apartment Association and enjoy being involved in an industry that has given me so many opportunities to grow. I was honored to receive both the Marketing and Engagement Partner of the Year award and Volunteer of the Year, and I’m proud to continue supporting the industry and community that have played such an important role in my career.

I believe success in this industry comes from building genuine relationships, not just contacts. Creating real connections with people has always been at the center of everything I do.

Ten minutes with Desiree

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to building authentic relationships and staying deeply involved in my industry. I believe real growth comes from supporting others, giving back, and creating meaningful connections that go beyond business. Through leadership, volunteerism, and a genuine passion for the multifamily community, I have been able to build partnerships that continue to open doors and drive my career forward.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was to always do what you say you are going to do. Someone told me early in my career that reliability builds trust, and trust builds opportunity. That advice has stayed with me and continues to guide the way I show up in my work and in my relationships.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

For young women entering this industry, I would encourage them to stay confident in who they are and never feel limited by where they come from. Your background does not define your future. Focus on building genuine relationships, learning from others, and continuing to grow. When you stay authentic, work hard, and treat people with respect, you will create opportunities that can take you further than you ever expected.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in our industry right now is helping clients balance their budgets while still maintaining the appearance and quality of their properties. Landscaping is often one of the first areas people try to cut back on, even though curb appeal plays a huge role in how a property is perceived.

The opportunity is in helping clients see landscaping as part of the overall experience of a community. When outdoor spaces are maintained well, it creates pride in the property and leaves a lasting impression on residents and visitors.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide my work are integrity, kindness, and honesty. I believe in treating people with respect, doing the right thing even when no one is watching, and building genuine relationships. These values shape how I serve clients, work with others, and show up professionally every day.
