Desiree Taylor is an author, speaker, and advocate who believes faith was never meant to be lived inside rigid boxes. In her debut book, Created to Relate: Living Beyond Religion, she openly shares her journey from structured religion to an authentic, life-giving relationship with Jesus.

Through writing, podcast conversations, and speaking at women’s events and retreats, Desiree leads with transparency and heart—inviting others to reflect on their own stories and grow both spiritually and personally. She is passionate about creating space for honest faith conversations, especially for those who have felt unseen, unheard, or stuck.

As a deaf woman with bilateral cochlear implants, Desiree is also a dedicated advocate for individuals with disabilities. Through her work at A Renewed Creation, she uses her voice and platform to raise awareness, encourage inclusivity, and remind others that limitations do not disqualify purpose.

Desiree lives in Westerly, Rhode Island, with her husband, Duane, and continues to share hope through blogging, guest speaking, and storytelling. Her mission is simple yet powerful: to help others embrace their stories, walk in authentic faith, and live fully—no matter what challenges they face.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my journey—and the work I do today—to the many seasons that have shaped me along the way. From more than a decade of writing, to years as a stay-at-home mom, to working closely with children with special needs, each season has taught me patience, perspective, and the deep importance of connection. Those lessons now flow naturally into my writing, speaking, and advocacy.

Publishing Created to Relate: Living Beyond Religion in August 2024 marked a meaningful milestone for me—one rooted in faith, courage, and perseverance. It represents not only a book, but also the resilience, creativity, and trust in God it took to bring my story to life.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to be patient with the process.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering my industry is to find your own unique voice—authenticity is far more powerful than imitation.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges in my field are marketing my work, finding my niche within my genre, and building sales while being solely responsible for my product. Standing out among so many writers can feel overwhelming, but staying true to my own voice keeps me grounded and focused.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my work and my life are authenticity, meaningful connection, and a deep desire to use my experiences—including being deaf—to help others better communicate, relate, and feel seen, all grounded in my faith.
