Her Interview

Ten minutes with Destanie

01What do you attribute your success to?

Destanie attributes her success to a combination of personal accountability, continuous learning, and the positive influence of leaders who recognized potential, encouraged development, and created environments where growth could thrive. Throughout her career, she has been fortunate to work alongside individuals who valued curiosity, welcomed questions, and viewed mistakes not as failures, but as opportunities to learn and improve. Those experiences, both past and present, have reinforced her belief that people achieve their greatest growth when they are supported, challenged, and encouraged to step outside their comfort zones.

While hard work and determination have played an important role in her journey, Destanie believes success is built through consistency, adaptability, and a willingness to continue learning. Earning her Certified Paralegal designation while advancing professionally reinforced her belief that growth is not a destination, but an ongoing process that requires discipline, persistence, and a commitment to becoming better each day.

She is also grateful for the mentors, colleagues, family, and support system that have encouraged her growth and challenged her to keep reaching for more. Those experiences have shaped her belief that success is rarely achieved alone and that some of life's greatest opportunities come from the people who invest in us, encourage us to grow, and inspire us to see potential beyond what we see in ourselves.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received was to never stop asking questions, never stop learning, and always be willing to hear out an opportunity. Staying open to new experiences and perspectives has helped me continue growing both personally and professionally, while reinforcing the value of adaptability, continuous improvement, and lifelong learning.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is simple: do not let others define your path for you. Stay true to who you are, pursue the opportunities that interest you, and do not allow someone else's expectations to determine what you are capable of achieving. Your career should be shaped by your goals, your ambitions, and the standards you set for yourself.

Never be afraid to ask questions, seek knowledge, or take on challenges that push you outside your comfort zone. Some of the most valuable growth comes from being willing to learn, make mistakes, and keep moving forward. Confidence is not something you are born with—it is built through experience, preparation, and a willingness to continue growing.

Most importantly, remember that success does not require you to fit a particular mold. Bring your own strengths, perspectives, and ideas to the table. Create your own opportunities, trust your abilities, and focus on becoming the best version of yourself rather than meeting someone else's expectations. The goals worth achieving are often found just beyond the limits others place on you—and sometimes even the limits you place on yourself.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in the construction industry is keeping pace with constant change. Technology, regulations, client expectations, and project demands continue to evolve, requiring professionals to remain adaptable and committed to learning throughout their careers.

For Destanie, the ability to learn and evolve is not just a professional necessity—it is a mindset. She believes growth comes from staying curious, asking questions, and remaining open to new ideas and perspectives. As emerging technologies and innovative solutions continue to transform the industry, she sees tremendous opportunity for those who are willing to embrace change, challenge traditional thinking, and continue developing both personally and professionally.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me most, both are integrity, accountability, and consistency. I believe character is reflected in the commitments we keep, the way we treat others, and how we show up each day—especially when no one is watching. I strive to lead by example, remain dependable, and approach every responsibility with the same level of care and commitment.

I also believe that growth is a lifelong journey. Whether in my career, my relationships, or my personal development, I am always looking for opportunities to learn, improve, and expand my perspective. I value environments where questions are encouraged, knowledge is shared, and people feel supported in their growth and development.

Above all, my family is my greatest source of purpose and motivation. I strive to build a life that reflects the values I believe in and to be a wife and mother my husband and son can be proud of—not simply through accomplishments, but through the example I set, the character I demonstrate, and the way I treat those around me.
