Her Story
About Destinee
I've been in my field for almost a year as a business consultant and mentor. What led me to this work is that I've always had a passion for leadership and helping people, and that led me to do more with business owners who are struggling with their businesses and don't know how to grow them. In my role, I talk to my clients and walk them through what they need to fix with their business to make sure they get the max funding they need to scale their business. I follow up and network with different entrepreneurs, like people who do taxes and real estate, who have the clients I typically help with. I'm most proud of helping a mom, because I'm a mom myself, scale her business and grow it to where she has financial freedom and is able to take care of her kids and be at home with her kids. I have over 10 years of leadership skills that I've put to use to help the community.

Ten minutes with Destinee
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would contribute it to my kids, because I feel like if I didn't have kids, I would kind of be stuck at a 9-to-5 job. Having kids made me think, okay, I'm more than just a 9-to-5. I have leadership skills that I've had over 10 years, and I can actually help people and put those skills to something to help the community.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell her to first talk to God. Second, get a mentor. It does not matter how old you are, how long you've been in any kind of business or anything, always have a mentor, because there is somebody who's doing better than you. That would be my advice. And other than that, another thing I would say is it doesn't matter where you came from, what you look like. Anybody can be successful if you apply yourself.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges is sometimes businesses aren't ready yet. I'm having to teach them like teaching a baby how to walk. I have to take them from step one to fixing this and then fixing that, and sometimes it gets challenging because some business owners have been in business for 5 to 10 years and their business is not structured right. It's kind of just taking that step, trying to coach somebody. Sometimes they get it, but it's been meaningful for me.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I love compassion. I love showing compassion to someone, and I love making that impact, because everybody has a story. You don't know where people came from, so me having good compassion, I'm able to understand my client further.
