Q

What do you attribute your success to?

First of all, I would say my parents and my upbringing. And then, I would say my determination to push forward. My college experience at a historically Black college and university gave me a different perspective on life and taught me that everything is not handed to you, and sometimes you have to fight to get what you're looking for. My first real job in the classroom was also a learning experience that helped me even to this day, because I had a lot of older, experienced educators who were able to mentor me, and I still use their teachings and apply them to my current role.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is to be true to myself and to know that the work I do is important. That's one piece of advice that I will never forget. Someone also told me to smile, because it lets your brain know that everything is gonna be alright. That's something that I always keep in mind through the tough times, the struggles, and the challenges that present themselves.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women entering this industry to focus on being the best version of themselves. Strive for excellence in everything you do, embrace challenges as opportunities to grow, and never underestimate the value of your unique perspective. Confidence, dedication, and authenticity will set you apart and help you navigate your career with purpose and impact.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

One of the most important values in my personal and professional life would be service, community service. And it doesn't always have to be something formal. I look at servicing a student who might be crying, taking them for a walk around the school, saying, hey, what's going on? It's gonna be okay. Or helping a teacher just have a 5-minute mental break. That's something that means a lot to me, because I've been afforded the opportunity through community service in ways along my journey.
