About DESTINEY

Destiney Watson serves as an organizational performance strategist within the consulting education field. Her career began in education, progressing from classroom teacher to training other educators, before she recognized systemic issues and transitioned into organizational psychology to address patterns and systems affecting people. Watson holds an undergraduate degree in communication and is currently enrolled in graduate school, supplementing formal education with lessons from the School of Hard Knocks. A published author who loves words, she has been selected as a presenting speaker at an international conference. Watson works primarily with high-functioning women, providing language for experiences such as burnout. She attributes her success to getting out of God's way and values transparency, vulnerability, assignment-led work, and community. Outside her professional pursuits, Watson is building Regal Academy, a micro-preschool, and is a mother to a toddler.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with DESTINEY

01What do you attribute your success to?

Getting out of God's way. My life has been about trying to make things happen myself, but after hitting major roadblocks, I realized I need to sit down and ask what God is saying instead of forcing my own path.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would challenge her to dig deeper into the personality that she is currently living in. What parts of your personality are inherently you and what parts were given to you by other people. A lot of times we've been living the life that other people have told us to live, and we don't know who we are. It will save so much time when you know that on the onset, coming into adulthood.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest opportunities are providing language for things that high-functioning women have already been going through but didn't have the language for, like burnout or high functioning itself. Having the language is empowering because it allows you to look at it for what it is.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Transparency and vulnerability. My favorite motto is I can't teach you to tie your shoe until I've learned to tie my own. I don't do anything that is not assignment-led. And community.
