What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to growing up in a hardworking, ambitious family that instilled in me the value of perseverance and dedication. I began my career as a cosmetologist in 2013, managing eight locations, and when the COVID-19 pandemic closed those doors, I pivoted to supply chain management in 2020. Starting from stocking supplies at University of Utah Health, I worked diligently to grow into a supervisory role within two years. I am passionate about my field, find it deeply rewarding, and continue to invest in my professional growth through my MBA studies in Business Administration.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to never lose sight of who you are. Staying true to yourself and your values allows you to navigate challenges with integrity and maintain focus on your long-term goals.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is that anything is possible. Hard work, persistence, and a willingness to learn will open doors and create opportunities for growth and success.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges faced for me are navigating tough personal relationships during the pandemic of Covid 19. I remember getting the call that doors were closing and we had to inform staff that they would need to reach out for assistance as we are not going to be operational during the Covid 19 outbreak. During that time it was a moment of reflection of how unessential I felt in a such a historic time, knowing my abilities and what I was capable of during that time and just stuck at home waiting. I moved my career into Supply Chain management in hopes to make a difference and have a sense of "need" in my life again. I enjoyed it more than imagined and actually was over qualified for the role applying for and had to stay on top of leadership to even get my foot into the door. Once I was in I knew where I wanted to go and where I am still going to better not only myself but the team around me and the organization at whole to see the big picture behind what we do and our purpose.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are balance, curiosity, and compassion. I enjoy exploring new experiences, traveling, and cultivating creativity, such as cutting hair in my spare time. I also have a deep love for animals, which reminds me of the importance of care, responsibility, and empathy in both my personal and professional life.
