What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my deep involvement in the Jacksonville community—starting with organizing Lowe’s to build garden beds across the entire school district and now partnering with “Communities in Schools” to support high school afterschool programs. My faith, church, and passions for music and fashion also guide and inspire me every step of the way.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received came from the incredible mentors in my life—my grandmother Paulette Jackson, who taught me the value of working with my hands; Goldie Irving, my life coach who guided me through difficult times; and Miss Pender, who helped me create actionable plans to achieve my goals.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is simple: be fearless and speak up.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in my work and personal life are creativity, self-expression, and sharing knowledge—whether through my music on SoundCloud under "Nawatmean" or my published book, The Truth About Gardening by Destiny K Jackson, available on Amazon and as an eBook.
