Her Story

About Destiny

I've been in my field for about 5 years, and I recently opened my own business, Precision Policy Group. My career began in the food and beverage industry when I was 16, which was almost two decades ago. In 2020, I got married and my husband was shipped overseas. During that time, we had marital issues and I was pregnant. I decided to go back to school and obtained an associate degree in Logistics and Global Supply Chain Management, graduating cum laude. Then I earned my bachelor's in Applied Administration, graduating magna cum laude. I'm currently working on my MBA with a 3.86 GPA in an accelerated program that will take 16 months instead of the typical 2-4 years. I discovered I had a knack for compliance work, and it became something that really drove me. That's what led me to open Precision Policy Group, which focuses on government compliance as well as commercial compliance and auditing. I work across multiple industries including food and beverage, auto, commercial, and I just started residential. Right now, I have a subcontract with TY doing their merchandising audits, and I'm contracted with IWS as well as Rand Brothers for Rand Jewelry for Dollar General. I just picked up a contract with a yogurt company as well. My work involves evaluating defects and efficiencies within businesses and establishments across industries like petroleum and gas, including Shell, Exxon, and Mobil, for compliance in regards to customer service. I gather quantitative and qualitative data for research purposes to optimize business efficiency. I'm a single mother of two boys and going through a divorce. My children are my drive and what makes me want to be a better person.

Ten minutes with Destiny

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my children. They are my drive. They are what makes me want to be a better person. My oldest little son is special needs - he's completely deaf with bilateral standard hearing loss, and he's autistic. There was a communication gap because I speak four languages, and the one language I didn't speak was American Sign Language. I was so young, and I decided that, you know what? I'm gonna be that person. That's what changed me. It went from being me and him to my issues with my husband, my marital issues when he went overseas, to having a brand new baby, and then someone that was special needs. I decided, you know what? I might be one person, but I have 2 more to live for. So that's what I did.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was: Don't worry about what other people think. You're there for you, and don't ever forget that. It's okay not to fit in. You're not there for others, you're there for yourself.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell them to be wary, because it's a job that there's a potential risk. You'd make money currently, but in the long run, you'll be taking a risk. So find something more stable, unless you truly have that yearning in your heart. Honestly, because it is hard. Now, if you truly want to help people, and you don't want to be a nurse or someone in the healthcare industry, it might be for you, but be determined, be ready to overcome those obstacles in life. Be ready to be yourself, be friendly, be you. And don't forget, don't let the rushes of the rush hour traffic, or the obstacles in life in general bang you down. Be that person. Be that person in the crowd that's like, you know what? Here's the flaw. Now let's fix this. We got this. I'll stand by you. As long as you have that type of mindset that you will stand by someone, by that company, then you'll be successful. But make sure that you have the heart and the determination to be that person.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in my field right now is that it's pretty competitive - actually really, really, really competitive. As for opportunities, I'm planning on getting my PhD in societal Computing, and I kind of got a niche in the market. Regarding artificial intelligence, I believe it has implemented every field, including consulting. AI has optimized efficiency in regards to non-value-added services, like getting from one location to another with GPS instead of old school maps. It's been more efficient. But eventually, I feel like it will make pilot auditing more obsolete due to the algorithms that will be implemented within their ERP systems for any type of events.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My values are honesty, integrity, and truth. Being honest is my main one. Being all you can be.
