Her Interview
Ten minutes with Detra
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from passion and knowledge for what I do. I take time to read and listen to stories of people who are homeless, and just my passion to help. You have to be passionate about people and genuinely care and want to help people.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Stick with your passion. Always gear a career towards something that does not feel like work. Something that when you get up in the morning, you don't feel pressured or stressed but you already know what task lies before you because you're that invested in the career that you've chosen.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Always stay true to who you are and to what makes you happy. Be true to what your calling is. Stay original, passionate, true, and authentic.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge right now is staffing and hiring people with the same passion. I see a lack of passion. That's a challenge that I'm facing right now.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
As a Christian, I lean on Christianity, and my ability to love and listen to others. To love and to listen.
