Ten minutes with Detria
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to tenacity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to servant leadership. Throughout my career, I have believed that leadership is fundamentally about serving others and creating opportunities for people to grow, succeed, and reach their full potential. Inspired by my mother, who dedicated her life to helping others as a social worker, I learned early that meaningful impact begins with putting people first. I have found that sustainable success comes from being intentional, showing up consistently, especially during challenging times, and taking the time to listen and understand before acting. My ability to remain adaptable, build meaningful relationships, and turn challenges into opportunities has allowed me to lead with purpose while creating positive outcomes for both organizations and communities.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is that small actions can create significant and lasting impact. My mother taught me through her example that every interaction is an opportunity to serve others and that leadership begins with putting people first. This perspective shaped my belief that service is not an additional responsibility but a powerful strategy for creating meaningful change. Throughout my career, I have seen how intentional acts of support, encouragement, and empathy can influence individuals, strengthen teams, and transform organizations. That lesson continues to guide my leadership philosophy and decision-making today.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to invest deeply in understanding their industry, mastering their craft, and committing to continuous professional growth. Building expertise and credibility is important, but I also believe that the most fulfilling and influential careers are those connected to a larger purpose. I encourage women to look for ways their work can create value for others and contribute to meaningful outcomes beyond individual success. By combining technical competence, confidence, and a commitment to service, women can build rewarding careers while making a lasting impact on the organizations and communities they serve. It is also important to seek mentors, build strong networks, and remain open to opportunities that challenge and expand your capabilities.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest opportunities for women in leadership today is the growing recognition of collaborative, empathetic, and service-oriented leadership styles. Organizations are increasingly realizing that strong leadership is not solely defined by authority, but by the ability to inspire, empower, and develop others while driving results. At the same time, challenges remain in overcoming outdated leadership expectations and ensuring that women have equal access to advancement opportunities and positions of influence. I believe the future belongs to leaders who can successfully balance purpose and performance while creating environments where people feel valued, supported, and motivated to contribute their best work.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide my life and leadership are faith, family, empathy, integrity, trust, and grace. I strive to bring authenticity, compassion, and intentionality into every aspect of my work and personal relationships. I believe true leadership is rooted in empowering others rather than exercising authority, and I am passionate about helping individuals and teams achieve their highest potential. Beyond my professional responsibilities, I find balance through faith, meditation, music, quiet reflection, and meaningful time with family and loved ones. These practices keep me grounded and help me maintain perspective. I believe that measurable results and human impact are equally important, and I am committed to leading in a way that creates both lasting organizational success and positive change in the lives of others.
