I learned that worthiness isn't earned through struggle alone. By accepting unconditional support from loved ones, I discovered that receiving good things is about respecting my journey, not proving my worth.

About Devika

Devika Toprani is a systems architect and strategist working at the intersection of human behavior, institutional design, and AI. She has a foundation in Psychology and holds an M.S. in Management & Quantitative Sciences (STEM) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She brings a unique blend of professional experience across K-12 education and Higher Education. She specializes in converting complex human dynamics into measurable, governable frameworks that support learning systems, product strategy, and program operations.

  • A Global Perspective: Systems Without Borders:

Born in Oman, Devika’s academic and professional journey spans GEMS Education in Dubai, University of Mumbai in India, and the United States through George Mason University and UIUC. This global trajectory enables her to design systems that remain resilient across cultural, institutional, and regulatory contexts.

A UAE Golden Visa holder, she maintains strategic ties to the region. Her experience includes navigating Dubai’s education landscape in leadership roles. She has also founded and scaled Doodles By Devika, an international e-commerce venture, delivering 300+ custom products for clients across Dubai, India, and Oman. Through this work, she cultivated a global digital audience.

  • Why Somagraphic Learning™

Devika is the Founder of Somagraphic Learning™ (IP-protected; US Copyright Pending). Through this work, she has engineered a modular, human-first framework that prioritizes cognitive sense-making before language or AI output. By reducing cognitive load through embodied patterning, the framework ensures that human cognition remains central to scalable AI and learning systems.

Her work has been recognized through inclusion in the She Writes AI directory. She also serves as an Ambassador for ECS.Education and has been invited to speak at UIUC WebCon 2026. She documents the evolution of this work through her Substack, Soulful Learning with AI.

  • Humanizing Systems with Soul

Following her tenure at the School of Social Work University of Illinois, Devika is currently seeking opportunities at the intersection of Program Strategy, Learning Systems, and Human-Computer Interaction innovation. Roles where human sense-making is treated as a core systems requirement rather than an afterthought. She is also open to strategic collaborations, pilots, fellowships, and speaking invitations centered on the Somagraphic Learning™ framework.

Devika also applies her STEM-designated management and analytics expertise to U.S. based consulting work under her brand Doodles By Devika

Her focus areas include:

  • Translating complex research and biomedical data into clear learning and patient education tools
  • Designing curriculum architectures and institutional frameworks for K-12, Higher Education, Healthcare and EdTech

At the core of her work is a commitment to individuality over automation bias, grounded in the belief that learning is “Not AI-made. It’s Soul-made.”

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Devika

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the friends and family who stood by me when there was nothing visible to believe in yet. They supported me long before there were titles, milestones, or external validation, and that quiet belief mattered more than any outcome. Their faith gave me the emotional safety to take risks, stay curious, and keep building through periods of uncertainty. Paired with discipline and deep, focused work, that support became the foundation for everything I’ve been able to create.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received came from my family. From a very young age, they encouraged me to pursue professional certifications and structured learning in every area I was genuinely interested in. They always said that nothing you learn ever goes to waste... it finds its way back to you at some point. That mindset shaped how I approach my career today. I invest deeply in learning, trusting that knowledge compounds over time and reveals its value when the moment is right.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don’t lose your individuality to groupthink. Your way of thinking, questioning, and making sense of the world is your greatest asset... especially in systems, technology, and learning-focused fields. Trends will shift and opinions will be loud, but originality is what creates long-term impact. Protect your perspective, invest in your thinking, and let your work reflect who you are, not just what’s currently popular.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges (and opportunities) is making room for non-linear thinkers. As technology shifts, organizations increasingly need people who can connect patterns and navigate ambiguity. Yet... these thinkers don’t always fit traditional roles. Ironically, they’re often a company’s greatest asset... and the future depends on recognizing that.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Kindness and empathy matter most to me. You never truly know what someone else is carrying, so I believe in leading and working with compassion... both professionally and personally. Being kind costs very little, but it has a lasting impact on how people feel, collaborate, and grow.
