What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to adaptability, dedication to student-centered learning, and a passion for helping children build confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning. Over nearly 15 years of teaching in India and the U.S., I have gained experience across multiple subjects, grade levels, and international curricula, specializing in hands-on, experiential learning and thriving in diverse classrooms. My career milestones include transitioning from India’s CBSE curriculum to teaching Oxford and Cambridge programs within six months of joining my first school, as well as achieving high ratings in my recent T-Test walkthrough in Texas — recognition that reflects both my commitment and adaptability.
Looking ahead, I plan to complete my J1 program and return to India to share the strategies and skills I have gained internationally. My goal is to train fellow educators, implement innovative teaching methodologies, and continue making a lasting impact on students, ensuring that each child I teach develops both academically and personally while feeling supported and inspired every day.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received came from the mentors who supported me during major transitions in my teaching journey. Early in my time in Texas, both my co-hort, Mrs.Stacy Boliver and a colleague from Kenya, Mrs. Idah Omwandho, who is also my mentor, guided me through my first weeks in a new academic system. Their encouragement not only helped me adjust quickly but also taught me the importance of kindness, guidance, and strong leadership in education. I’ve carried that lesson with me ever since, and it continues to shape how I collaborate with colleagues and support my students.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the teaching profession is to embrace challenges, seek guidance from mentors, and never stop learning. Teaching requires patience, confidence, and adaptability, so it’s important to stay open-minded, listen to your students’ needs, and trust that your growth will come through experience. By remaining committed and curious, you can develop both as an educator and as a leader in your field.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced in teaching is transitioning between countries and curricula, particularly navigating new rules, standards, and student needs in the U.S. At the same time, I view these challenges as valuable opportunities to strengthen my skills and broaden my perspective. Working with diverse students in Texas has allowed me to grow both professionally and personally, and it continues to enrich my approach to education.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide both my work and personal life are responsibility, respect, creativity, and compassion. I believe teaching is not only about academics but also about shaping character and helping children become kind, capable individuals. I also value humility, staying grounded, and committing to continuous learning every day.
Outside the classroom, I have a deep passion for drawing and pencil sketching, which I find both relaxing and a meaningful way to connect with my students. I also enjoy creative projects, cultural exchange, and activities that allow me to bring art and expression into my teaching, enriching both my students’ experiences and my own.
