Her Story
About Diana E.
Diana Lee serves as Staffing Manager at Cornerstone Caregiving in Fort Lauderdale, where she leads caregiver recruitment, scheduling, and daily operations while ensuring full compliance with Florida's licensing, background check, and documentation requirements. With more than 35 years of experience in the home health care field, Diana's career path began far from medicine — she trained as a physical education teacher in Jamaica and pursued a promising future in track and field. A serious car accident in 1995 brought that athletic career to an abrupt end, prompting her to immigrate to the United States and reinvent her professional life. Rather than viewing this setback as a limitation, she embraced it as the beginning of a new calling, one that would ultimately lead her into decades of dedicated service in home health care. Over the course of her career, Diana has held nearly every role in the field, from hands-on positions as a home health aide and scheduling coordinator to her current leadership post overseeing agency-wide staffing and operations. She approaches her work as more than a profession, treating caregiving as a ministry rooted in compassion, safety, and trust. Central to her leadership style is a belief in servant leadership: she prioritizes mentoring new caregivers, matching them thoughtfully with clients, and instilling in her teams the understanding that technical skills can be taught, but genuine compassion cannot. Her educational background reflects this same commitment to growth and service, combining a teaching diploma from Jamaica, an associate degree in medical office major in billing and coding, and a doctorate in humanitarian studies earned through her church involvement. Beyond her professional responsibilities, Diana is deeply engaged in community and philanthropic work. Having cared personally for her mother through her battle with Alzheimer's disease, she has become a passionate advocate for families facing similar journeys, while also supporting breast cancer awareness initiatives. She founded a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and empowering women affected by fibroids and severe menstrual health challenges, and she regularly mentors aspiring entrepreneurs, encouraging them toward business ownership and long-term independence. Most of these attributes came about through the great leadership of her Pastor Dr. Sonia B. Lee of Heart of Compassion Ministries in Coral Springs, FL. An active member of Toastmasters in Florida, where she has earned the club's Shooting Star recognition, Diana was also selected as one of the Influential Women representing Margate, Florida for 2026 — a fitting tribute to a career defined by faith, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to service.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Diana E.
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to having a servant's heart. I have always had a passion for helping people, and being a "people person" with a bubbly, encouraging spirit has shaped the way I lead. Throughout my life and career, I have learned that the greatest impact we can make is not measured by titles or recognition, but by the lives we touch, the people we encourage, and the opportunities we create for others to thrive. My path has not been a straight line — from teaching physical education in Jamaica, to pursuing track and field, to rebuilding my future after a life-changing car accident ended my athletic career — but every experience prepared me for the work I do today in home health care.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t get a career because of rate of pay, because you will work everyday of your life. Do it because you love what you do and the money will find you. Love what you do can take you places that money can’t take you.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
To anyone considering a career in home health care, my advice is simple: enter this profession because you genuinely care about people. This field requires compassion, patience, integrity, and a willingness to serve others during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. You have to have a heart to love and to care, and a genuine spirit that truly wants to help — a servant's heart. Never forget that every client places tremendous trust in your hands, so honor that trust by treating each person with dignity, respect, and kindness. I also encourage new entrants to prioritize patient safety, remain open to learning, and consider entrepreneurship as a path toward independence and a way to help even more people.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges we face is staff burnout, along with finding caregivers who not only have a passion for health care but also possess warm, friendly personalities — since our caregivers are entering clients' homes to help them feel comfortable and supported, not to take over their lives. Building compassionate healthcare teams means recruiting and mentoring caregivers while maintaining high standards for safety, compliance, and quality of care. At the same time, I see real opportunity in supporting families through difficult circumstances, helping both clients and caregivers navigate the complexities of home health care with empathy and professionalism, and in mentoring caregivers toward entrepreneurship and long-term stability.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Compassion, service, and integrity guide everything I do, both professionally and personally. Caring for my own mother during her journey with Alzheimer's gave me firsthand insight into the emotional, physical, and spiritual challenges caregivers face, and that experience deepened my commitment to supporting families with empathy and understanding. I also value empowering others — whether through mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs, supporting women's health initiatives, or investing in my community — because I believe that when we invest in others, we strengthen entire communities. My faith and commitment to service remain at the center of both my work and my personal life.
