Her Story

About Diana

I was inspired to enter healthcare when I was 21 and going to my doctor's appointments on my own. The person at the front desk explained how my deductible worked, my co-payment, what my liability was for the day, and how important it was to get accurate demographic information for billing purposes. She provided great patient satisfaction and was very professional, and I thought, how do I get a job here? I really liked how she explained everything to me since I didn't really understand much of how insurance worked. As a director of the hospital, I make sure that we reduce any claim denials, prevent delayed payments from insurance, and prevent any lost revenue for the hospital. We stay in compliance with insurances and with CMS. I do a lot of team development, making sure that we follow reimbursement rules and maintain strong communication skills. The biggest thing is the revenue cycle management expertise in my role. I've been in leadership for 7 years, and what I'm most proud of is the culture that I bring to my team. I do a lot of recognition for my team. I'm one of those leaders where just because I'm a director does not mean that I shouldn't be on the floor helping my team. I'm always a helping hand, educating my staff for any opportunities, because the more they know, the less work I have to do in the back end to correct mistakes.

Ten minutes with Diana

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think having a good support system has been the key factor to my success. Throughout my journey, which hasn't always been easy, especially with two children at home, working on school at the same time, and doing the surrogacy, having people who support me has made all the difference.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The best advice that I would give to my younger self, or to somebody wanting to get in this field, would be just stay consistent, don't give up, and find a good mentor.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

What I love most about my job is helping our patients and making sure that they leave that hospital feeling better and had a positive experience. The culture I bring to my team is what I'm most proud of. I do a lot of recognition for my team, and I'm one of those leaders where just because I'm a director does not mean that I shouldn't be on the floor helping my team. I'm always a helping hand, educating my staff, because the more they know, the less work I have to do in the back end to correct mistakes. Outside of work, my husband is a youth minister, so we do a lot of church volunteer work. I also love to work out and go to the gym - it's kind of like a reset for me.
