About Diana

Diana Potts is the Founder and CEO of The Center for Emerging Business (TCFEB), a business consulting and workforce development organization dedicated to helping entrepreneurs, small businesses, and organizations achieve sustainable growth. Through TCFEB, she provides strategic guidance in federal contracting, business development, leadership, and organizational growth, helping clients build the capabilities needed to compete successfully in the public sector.

With more than two decades of experience in disaster response and recovery, Diana is also the Founder and CEO of Disaster-Corps, a veteran-led public-private collaborative focused on strengthening disaster preparedness, response, and long-term community resilience. Disaster-Corps brings together government, industry, nonprofits, academia, and workforce partners to address critical capability gaps through innovative training, workforce development, and scalable response solutions that help communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters more effectively.

A Service-Disabled Veteran with 13 years of overseas service, Diana has dedicated her career to leadership, service, and creating opportunities that strengthen both businesses and communities. Her work has earned two Congressional Honors for disaster response and recovery, recognition by the White House Business Advisory Council for two terms, and participation in Pentagon task force initiatives. She has also been recognized as one of North Carolina's Top 50 Women Leaders and one of the Top 10 Inspiring Women Leaders in the United States.

Through both TCFEB and Disaster-Corps, Diana continues to champion innovation, collaboration, and workforce development while building partnerships that enhance economic growth, strengthen community resilience, and prepare the next generation of leaders.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Diana

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a simple philosophy: always put people before programs and purpose before profit. Throughout my career, I have focused on building relationships, solving real problems, and creating opportunities that help others succeed. Whether mentoring entrepreneurs, helping small businesses navigate the federal marketplace, or developing Disaster-Corps to strengthen disaster preparedness and community resilience, my goal has always been to leave people and communities stronger than I found them.

I believe lasting success comes from listening, collaborating, and bringing together the right partners to accomplish what no single organization can achieve alone. Every recognition I have received is really a reflection of the incredible people, teams, and communities I have had the privilege to serve alongside.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was, "Focus on solving problems, not chasing titles." That perspective has shaped every stage of my career. Whether serving in the military, helping small businesses succeed, or building Disaster-Corps, I've learned that when you consistently solve meaningful problems and serve others well, opportunities and leadership naturally follow. The best advice I ever received was to never build success alone. Surround yourself with people who challenge you, complement your strengths, and share your values. The greatest accomplishments in my career have come through collaboration and bringing together people and organizations around a common mission.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I was taught that your reputation is your most valuable asset. Skills can be learned and opportunities come and go, but integrity, keeping your word, and treating people with respect will open more doors than any title ever will. I've tried to carry that lesson with me throughout my career. Don't let someone else define what you're capable of. Be willing to do the hard work, ask questions, and keep learning throughout your career. Build your reputation on integrity, preparation, and delivering results—those qualities will always stand out. Most importantly, don't be afraid to take on challenges that seem beyond your comfort zone. Some of the greatest opportunities in my career came from saying "yes" to difficult assignments that others were hesitant to pursue.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities today is bringing together government, industry, nonprofits, academia, and small businesses to solve increasingly complex challenges. Whether it's disaster preparedness, workforce development, or emerging technologies like AI, no single organization can do it alone. The greatest challenge is moving beyond traditional approaches to build collaborative, innovative solutions that strengthen communities and create long-term resilience. I believe the future belongs to organizations that are willing to partner, adapt, and invest in people as much as technology.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity has always been my foundation. I believe in keeping my word, treating people with respect, and leading through service. As a mother and grandmother, I also value the importance of family, creating opportunities for future generations, and leaving the world better than we found it. Whether in my professional or personal life, I believe in collaboration, lifelong learning, and helping others reach their full potential. Those values have guided every decision I've made and continue to shape the work I do through The Center for Emerging Business and Disaster-Corps.
