Her Story

About Dina

I started in the beauty industry in 2011 after spending many years as a housewife. I always wanted to be in the beauty industry, even back in my country, but when I was married and taking care of kids, I felt dependent on someone else and limited by someone else's budget. I believe that as a woman, we have to keep our independence, and I decided to make my talent work for me. My lash studio specializes in customized lash extensions, and my demographic is mainly women 35 and up - mature ladies with mature skin and mature eyelids. I work with a lot of women who have skin conditions, who are going through chemotherapy and losing their natural lashes due to medical treatment, or who are experiencing hair loss from menopause. Every single experience in my studio is a customized experience because I don't want my clients to feel like a number. Yesterday I had a client who has had cancer maybe four times now, and I've been treating her, building lashes for her to give her that mascara look and help her feel better. When her treatment became too aggressive and she lost all her lashes, I offered to make beautiful spray lashes for her instead. These women share their beautiful stories with me, and I'm able to build something that gives them a different meaning - it's not just putting lashes on, we do it on another level. I follow up with my clients, I care for them, and I provide them with something that makes them look fierce and feel fabulous.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I believe you have to have faith - faith in yourself, your service, and the products that you bring to the community and to the women who come to my place. The value that I bring with my service and what I provide is unique because I do care for my clients and I follow up with them. A lot of women with mature skin are going through medical issues, menopause, losing hair and lashes and confidence. When we provide something that is specifically for them, when I say we're gonna do something that is gonna pop your eyes, you're gonna look fierce, you're gonna feel fabulous with this beautiful lash made just for you - it brings a different meaning in someone's life. It's not just putting lashes on, we do it on another level, and the clients feel that big time. I also have very high standards and I'm dedicated to the client experience. I keep confident in what I bring to my clients - something different, something unique in my experience, my talent, my care, my products, my service - and that keeps me going and keeps me confident that I'm moving forward with my business.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I would say my mom gave me the best advice through her example. When I was in my country, she was a housewife, and then there was a time when we were all going to college and my mom was going to the university at the same time. All of us were going to school and getting education kind of at the same time. Then, after being a housewife, my mom graduated and became a big role in a big corporation. That made me think that when we want to do something, we can do it. We just have to be positive, we have to believe in ourselves, what we have to offer, and put our talents out there and make it work, and provide people with something that we love to do. My father died, and my mom is still living her best life. I learned that being independent brings a different level of confidence on us as a woman.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I always tell the girls, especially when they're coming to my studio and we share and have small talk, create your own independence. There's nothing more beautiful than being independent, that we don't have to be tied to anyone's budget and be limited by someone else because we don't have independence. I experienced that people go through so much because they're dependent on someone. The best thing as a woman is to find something to do. If you think you have a talent, you create something beautiful and you can make it work and create your own independence. I think that's the best thing that we can do as a woman. I believe that as a woman, we have to keep our independence. I was married for so long and I was just being dependent on someone else, and I had to depend on someone else's budget, and it puts a lot of limitations on us as a woman. If you have a talent, just make it work, whatever the case could be.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

When it's about beauty, it's something that we do need, but that's not how we see it out there. I believe we need it because we want to feel good, and when we feel good, we do our best. We experience challenges, and I will say not on a daily basis, but we have experienced challenges in the business and the beauty industry. But in my case, I keep confident in what I bring to my clients - something different, something unique in my experience that I bring to my clients, my talent, my experience, my care, my products, my service. That keeps me going and keeps me confident that I'm moving forward with my business, but we do face challenges.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Independence is the most important value to me. I believe that as a woman, we have to keep our independence. When I was married for so long, I was dependent on someone else and had to depend on someone else's budget, and it puts a lot of limitations on us as a woman. There's nothing more beautiful than being independent, that we don't have to be tied to anyone's budget and be limited by someone else. Being independent brings a different level of confidence on us as a woman. I also value caring for my clients - I do care for them, I follow up with them, and I provide them with a customized experience where they don't feel like a number. The value that I bring with my service is unique because of this care and attention.
