Her Interview

Ten minutes with Djenita

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say my background, especially as a refugee coming to the United States during a war, and seeing my mom, who was a single parent, really do everything that she could to put food on the table, and also to make sure that I was able to follow my dreams. That really just ignited a fire within me that still holds true today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Just follow your heart, because it'll never steer you wrong.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell them to make sure that they get a really good mentor who can also teach them to advocate on their behalf. To this day, I still have so many incredible mentors, both within the legal and entertainment industries, and I think it is so crucial for young women's development to have that, because it'll just be an asset long-term.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

For the legal industry, I think the biggest challenges are probably retaining talent, because the legal field is very competitive, especially in markets like Denver, where you have so many large law firms moving in, and eager associates, but who also want to make the right financial and career decision for themselves. Outside of the legal field, I think it's just getting in touch with the right people and really just making sure that the people that you want seeing your products are doing so.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think trustworthiness, a good work ethic, and compassion are most important to me, whether it's in terms of your personal or professional life. To be a strong leader, you have to have compassion for people.
