Ten minutes with Dominique
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to resilience, perseverance, curiosity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to lifelong learning. Throughout my nearly 22-year healthcare career, I have continuously invested in my education while embracing opportunities to grow professionally. Mentorship from physicians and healthcare leaders has played a significant role in my development, providing valuable guidance and confidence as I advanced into leadership. My childhood experiences as a patient inspired me to dedicate my career to improving healthcare for others, transforming personal challenges into a lifelong mission of service. I also believe in mentoring future healthcare professionals and creating positive change within every organization I serve, always striving to leave patients, colleagues, and healthcare systems better than I found them.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One of the most meaningful pieces of career advice I ever received came from a physician who told me that I was "the oil that made the machine run." Those words reminded me that leadership is not defined solely by titles but by the impact we have on the people, teams, and systems around us. That encouragement helped me recognize my own value, strengthened my confidence, and inspired me to continue pursuing opportunities to learn, lead, and make a meaningful difference in healthcare.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to never allow their circumstances, setbacks, or other people's expectations to define what they are capable of achieving. Every woman already possesses value, leadership potential, and the ability to make a meaningful difference from the very beginning of her career. I believe it is important to continue learning, persevere through challenges, and have confidence in your abilities. Do not settle for limitations placed on you by others or by your current circumstances. Through education, resilience, and determination, you can transform obstacles into opportunities while inspiring future generations of women to pursue leadership and create lasting change in healthcare.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I believe healthcare has made meaningful progress in creating more leadership opportunities for women, but there is still important work to be done in overcoming stereotypes and ensuring women are recognized for their expertise and leadership potential. I am encouraged by the growing number of women serving in executive leadership roles and believe this momentum will continue to shape the future of healthcare. By investing in education, mentoring others, embracing self-care, and confidently pursuing leadership opportunities, women will continue driving innovation, improving patient care, and creating lasting change across the healthcare industry.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide both my professional and personal life are compassion, integrity, perseverance, empathy, service, authenticity, and continuous growth. As someone who balanced raising a family while earning multiple degrees and advancing my career, I understand the importance of resilience and leading by example. I am passionate about mentoring others and encouraging people to realize their potential regardless of where they begin. I also believe that sustainable leadership starts with self-care and healthy boundaries. By prioritizing work-life balance and personal wellness, I am better equipped to care for others, support my teams, and create a positive, lasting impact within the healthcare organizations and communities I serve.
