Her Story

About Donna

I started my career 30 years ago in marketing for oil and gas, and in the late 90s I moved into business development and software when I did a project with Enron Azurex. I understood the software piece of what they were building, and it actually pulled me more into software, which is why my company does both marketing and software development today. I work with mostly small businesses, primarily in insurance, though I have a couple of oil and gas clients including one big one that's tied to a parent company in the UK. I build large-scale platforms for my clients - I understand the marketing side of it so well that I'm able to map the business flow over to the software side, so I kind of own the whole thing. I'm currently a fractional CMO for one client, and I'm building a marketplace for the virtual pipeline gas industry that's going to be my big project for 2026. During COVID, when I couldn't do my regular work, I started another company called Floof Cutters where I designed, marketed, and built the software platform to sell and build baking tools for home bakers. I have 3 patents under that company, and I've been on Food Network baking shows and competitions. I dissolved that company about 4 months ago to focus on my current work. I've built major applications including a competitor to Poshmark called Purge and one for a stationery company called Petal and Press. What makes me different is that I do both marketing and software - I don't know of another marketing firm that does cross-software form design at the scale we do.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I learned this when I raced Ironman for 7 years: if I can do it, anybody can do it. I don't think anybody should be afraid to take that leap. I have a quote on my LinkedIn banner that I know is not the most marketing-ish thing to say, but it says 'without great risk, there cannot be great reward.' I live by that. I'm not afraid to start things. When COVID hit and I couldn't do my regular work, I started another company called Floof Cutters where I designed, marketed, and built the software platform to sell and build baking tools for home bakers, because they couldn't do anything either. That's the kind of person I am - I see opportunities and I take risks to pursue them.
