Her Story

About Donna

I grew up in Decatur, Illinois in a musical family, so my musical background started as a young child. Through high school, I played for churches and around the city in community events, banquets, weddings, and conventions. I went off to college and met more influential people who built upon the foundation that had been laid for me when I left home. As an adult, God continued to navigate my journey to introduce me to more influential people, more conventions, more opportunities to serve people, and more opportunities to travel around the country. Through all of this, I wrote two award-winning devotionals steeped in praise and worship, because that's where my passion is. I've been speaking in conventions, women's conferences, and worship conferences around the country, and I've done international podcasting as a guest on podcasts in Canada, Australia, South Africa, and the UK and London. God has used me on this journey, and I just love what I do. I love helping people and transforming lives through music ministry and being a music strategist, helping pastors and music ministry personnel work better together, building their relationship, building praise teams, and making them stronger. That is what really gives me life.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I show up to rehearsal prepared because my choir members' time is valuable, and I pay attention to that. It's not just about me, it's about their time spent. They don't have to come to rehearsal, we all have lives, but they choose to come. And because they choose to come, I need to be prepared for them. I've learned more in my dark times than in my good times, because spiritually, the Lord has to get your attention. When life is going good, that flesh is entertained, but it's in those dark times when the only person you have to turn to is Him, and that's what He wants. I take care of my body and my mind through working out, weightlifting, and cardio. People relate to our personal stories more than they do our professional successes.
