About Dora
Dora Gutirrez is a biotechnology entrepreneur and business leader with more than 15 years of experience. She began her career as an industrial mechanical engineer working for manufacturing companies. She then moved to Europe to build a more international and global career, taking on expansion positions with large corporations such as Amazon, Avent, and Walmart. In these roles she specialized in launching regulated categories including pharmacy, groceries, and liquor, which involve complex operations, legal, marketing, and supply chain considerations. A couple of years ago she founded her own biotechnology company focused on environmental and social impact. The company produces biomaterials and biochemicals for the beauty and wellness industry, including upcycling tequila waste into biochemicals and biomaterials. She holds an MBA from Columbia University in New York and additional certifications in business analytics, private equity, venture capital, and merchandise management from the Wharton School, FIT, and Columbia. She is based in New York and serves on the board of the nonprofit LEAP New York, which supports arts and education initiatives.

01What do you attribute your success to?
An amazing network of mentors, friendships and family. My close system has make me to continue and pursuing my goals and dreams, they have been with me in the good and bad moments. So having truthful, honest and loving people around are the reason of my success.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
At a very early stage of my career, someone told me: do what you love, everything else success, financial stability will come along. It took time to understand it but now I realized that doing what I'm passionate about makes everything easier and the excitement drives me forward even through the different challenges of entrepreneurship..
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never assume, that will remove so much hurdle in life
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Access to capital. Bioeconomy is a large industry growing at a ~13% CAGR. However, there is CAPEX investment and a lot of innovation. So access to capital can be a challenge.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty and integrity. I like to work with honest people, people I can trust. And I understand it has to start with me, I like to lead by example
