Her Story

About Dorathy

Dorathy Dang serves as a Senior Account Rep in commercial lines insurance, managing client accounts through renewals, certificates of insurance, and carrier relationships while prioritizing tasks and collaborating with specialized teams. She began her insurance career in July 2025 and earned a promotion to her current role in July 2026 after demonstrating strong performance in the company's career path program. Prior to insurance, Dang completed an internship as a customer service specialist in order entry at a chemical manufacturing company and worked as a general laborer and final inspector. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in General Management from Bryant and Stratton, which she completed in 2025 while working full time and raising her family, and she is a few courses away from earning her CISR Elite designation. Dang participates in USI Gives Back volunteering through her employer. She credits her faith in God and the support of friends and family for her success, noting that she often worked on her laptop at family events to stay on track with her goals. Her core values include loyalty, respect, integrity, a strong work ethic, and time management. Dang advises aspiring professionals, especially young women, to think long term, envision goals with faith and discipline, communicate effectively, and build listening and connection skills.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Dorathy

01What do you attribute your success to?

My faith in God has been number one, trusting that through my faith I was going to be able to improve my circumstances. The support of all of my friends and family has also been huge. Even at family parties I would have my laptop with me working toward my goals.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Communicate. Try to improve your listening skills and your communication, and your connection with other people. That would be the best advice.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Think about it long-term. Envision your goals and have faith that they're possible. Keep believing it's going to be possible. Make sure you do the work too, be disciplined, and complete everything by the deadline. Every day do whatever you need to get closer to your goals.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is the amount to learn in commercial lines insurance; it's complicated and requires constant continuing education as it evolves, like learning a whole new language. The opportunity is the security and clear corporate ladder with room for promotions from entry level up to account management, executive, manager, trainer or underwriter.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Loyalty, respect, integrity, hard work ethic, and time management. Time management is key to making everything else happen and keep moving forward.
