Her Interview

Ten minutes with Dorice

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my sisters. As the youngest of seven, I was the first in my family to attend college, graduate, and earn a master’s degree. My sisters always pushed me to succeed, believed in me, and made sacrifices that helped shape the woman I am today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I ever received was to come to the table with knowledge and use my voice. About 15 years ago, I was the only woman and the only person of color at the table, and my boss reminded me that people would not know what I had to offer if I stayed quiet. That advice taught me to stop shrinking in rooms I had earned the right to be in.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is to lead with confidence and come prepared with knowledge. Do not just learn your job, understand how HR impacts the business through hiring, training, retention, culture, and organizational strategy. When you understand the bigger picture, you become more than support, you become a true strategic partner.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities in HR is helping organizations understand that people strategy is business strategy. Companies are navigating talent shortages, retention challenges, changing employee expectations, and the need for stronger leadership. HR has the opportunity to guide those conversations and help build workplaces where people and the business can grow.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty, integrity, accountability, and positivity are the values that guide me most. I believe in doing what I say I am going to do, showing up prepared and on time, and treating people with respect. I also believe in surrounding myself with people and environments that encourage growth.
