Her Story

About Doris

Doris Wright is a retired office manager who served executives and various team members of a government agency for 30 years until her retirement in 2001. She began her career as a customer service representative and advanced through on-the-job experience, managing day-to-day office activities with accuracy and independence. Wright received a governor's citation and an ASTI award in recognition of her professional achievements. She attributes her success to the training and encouragement provided by her supervisors, including Bertha Pierce, Regina Brooks, and Ruth Chateau, who guided her development. Her core values center on faith, drawn from her attendance at the Missionary Baptist Church, which she credits with shaping her approach in both professional and personal spheres. In retirement, Wright enjoys traveling, spending time with family, exercising, participating in worship services, and supporting her church's charity association. She advises young women entering the workforce to be their best and do their best, and emphasizes the importance of faithfulness to employers.

Ten minutes with Doris

01What do you attribute your success to?

The training and encouragement that I received from my supervisors meant a lot to me. They took time. Guided me, and that was essential.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be faithful. Insist or do employers depend on you and being faithful to them will take you a long way.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be your best. Do your best.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Faith. Because I attend church and I'm taught the values associated with religion. That helped me a lot from day to day, in the social community and in the employment community.
