About Dorotha
Dorotha Lemeh is an Associate Professor of Visual Art at the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University’s Jupiter MacArthur campus, where she serves as a professional artist, educator, and writer specializing in the intersections of art, education, and interdisciplinary learning. With more than 37 years of experience in higher education, she began her academic career at Pennsylvania State University, her alma mater, where she taught, advised, mentored students, and developed an undergraduate advising program within the School of Visual Arts.
Throughout her career at Florida Atlantic University, Lemeh has played a significant role in expanding the arts curriculum by designing the college’s first art concentration, which later evolved into the Transdisciplinary Visual Arts program. She also co-developed and helped establish the Medical Humanities concentration with colleagues, integrating her expertise in visual arts with her family’s background in medicine to explore meaningful connections between the arts, sciences, and human experience. Her teaching and scholarship reflect a commitment to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and collaborative approaches to education.
As a practicing artist, Lemeh has exhibited her work in more than 90 national and international exhibitions, including solo exhibitions at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and the Boca Museum of Art, where her work is now part of the permanent collection. Her artwork has been featured in exhibitions and biennials across Mexico, Italy, Bulgaria, China, West Africa, and beyond, earning recognition through awards including Best of Show, First Place, and Honorable Mention. She is actively involved in the broader arts community through organizations such as the College Art Association, the Committee on Women in the Arts, and the Board of Advisors for Art Matters, continuing to advocate for the importance of art, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
