Dorthy Huddleston, CBSP, is the founder and creative director of House of LaDore, a quiet luxury lifestyle house spanning fine art, textiles, editorial, hospitality and etiquette. Its cultural home is Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard. House of LaDore grew from the Walking in Stilettos Network, which Dorthy founded in 2014 for women building businesses, careers and what's next. 01What do you attribute your success to?
Consistency and an eye for detail. I learned early that how you show up, in your work, your home and your word, says everything before you speak. I built House of LaDore one quiet, intentional decision at a time, and I have never stopped learning.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Build what you want to see, even when no one else can see it yet. The vision is yours to hold until the world catches up.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Protect your creativity, your time and your health. You cannot put a price tag on any of them. Learn the business side as seriously as the creative side: pricing, contracts, partnerships. And remember that elegance is not the absence of ambition. It is ambition carried with grace.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Women are busier than ever and overwhelmed by choice. The opportunity is to give them their time back, with curated guidance that feels personal rather than another endless feed. That is why I created Ask the House. Luxury today is not more. It is the right thing, chosen well.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Grace, integrity and intention. I believe in doing things well, treating people with warmth, and making every space, and every woman who enters it, feel considered. Come on in. The House is fine. 🤎
