Her Interview
Ten minutes with Dr. Bria
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to my mother, who pushed me to reach my fullest potential after earning my bachelor’s degree. Her encouragement inspired me to continue my education, and I am deeply grateful for the support and confidence she instilled in me. I went on to earn my master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Phoenix this year, further strengthening my professional foundation. I also recognize the importance of project management as a versatile skill that applies across disciplines, particularly because women remain underrepresented in the field. My commitment to advancing in project management reflects both my dedication to continuous growth and my desire to encourage more women to pursue opportunities in this profession.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received came from my mother: “Do what makes you happy.” She encouraged me to pursue what genuinely fulfills me rather than allowing the expectations or opinions of others to dictate my path. That advice has stayed with me throughout my career and has reminded me to remain true to myself, follow my passions, and make choices that align with my purpose and personal goals.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The best advice I would give young women entering project management is to pay close attention to the smallest details and not focus solely on the bigger picture. While understanding the overall goals and objectives of a project is important, the smaller details are often what determine whether a project succeeds. Every task, timeline, communication, document, and decision matters, and even a minor oversight can affect the outcome of an entire project. I encourage women to develop a strong sense of precision, remain organized, ask thoughtful questions, and take the time to review their work carefully. In project management, every detail counts, and precision matters. Developing that level of discipline and attention to detail will not only make you a stronger project manager but will also help you build credibility, earn trust, and lead with confidence across any industry.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In both my work and personal life, I value balance, resilience, and making time for the activities that bring me joy. Bowling is one of my greatest passions and serves as an important way for me to relax, de-stress, and recharge when I have free time. I enjoy the competitive aspect of bowling and the opportunity to challenge myself and compete with others, which makes it my favorite hobby. I also love swimming, whether at the beach or in a pool, because it gives me another opportunity to unwind and enjoy the moment. These activities remind me of the importance of maintaining balance, making time for myself, and finding healthy ways to manage the demands of a busy professional life.
