Ten minutes with Dr. Crystal D.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success first and foremost to my spiritual foundation, which continues to shape my character, guide my decisions, and keep me grounded in integrity, authenticity, and service. I've always believed that success is about more than accomplishments or recognition. It's also about the person we become, the principles we uphold, and the impact we have on others.

I approach life with curiosity, intentionality, and a willingness to continually learn and evolve. Over the years, I've come to appreciate the importance of discernment, recognizing that not every opportunity is necessarily aligned with where I'm going or who I'm becoming. Experience has taught me to trust my judgment, remain open to growth, and understand that every season offers something valuable, whether it's an achievement, a challenge, or an unexpected change in direction.

I also recognize that no journey of significance unfolds entirely on our own. I've been fortunate to have mentors, family, friends and individuals who have generously shared their wisdom, challenged my thinking, encouraged my ambitions, and helped expand my vision of what's possible. Their guidance has contributed to my personal and professional growth in meaningful ways. I believe there is tremendous value in remaining both a student and a teacher throughout life, because regardless of what we've accomplished, there is always more to discover, understand, and experience.

Above all, I believe in being of genuine service, treating people with dignity, and contributing something meaningful wherever I have the opportunity. For me, success is not simply measured by what I've achieved, but by the integrity with which I've pursued it, the relationships I've cultivated, the lives I've touched, and the foundation I'm continuing to build for the future.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to never shrink myself when I know who I am. I've carried that wisdom with me throughout my professional journey because I understand that confidence begins with recognizing your own value, trusting your abilities, and being willing to stand firmly in what you bring to the table.

Over the years, I've learned that while titles, positions, and opportunities may change, the knowledge, experience, character, and wisdom we cultivate remain part of who we are. No one can diminish those qualities unless we begin to question our own value.

I've also learned that knowing your worth doesn't mean having all the answers. It means being secure enough in yourself to remain teachable, embrace new perspectives, and continue evolving without feeling the need to prove your significance.

My advice to others is simple: Never allow an environment, a position, or someone else's perception of your capabilities to determine how you see yourself. Know your value, continue developing your gifts, and have the courage to occupy the space you've earned while remaining open to the possibilities you have yet to explore.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to begin by understanding who you are before becoming consumed with what you want to accomplish. Take the time to examine your values, recognize your strengths, and become clear about your “why”—the purpose and motivation behind the goals you're pursuing.

Clarity is important, but clarity without action will only take you so far. Develop your knowledge, sharpen your skills, seek mentorship, and create a plan that translates your aspirations into measurable progress. Be willing to learn the business side of your profession just as intentionally as you develop your expertise.

I would also encourage young women to exercise discernment. Not every opportunity will be appropriate for the direction you're pursuing, and not every path to success needs to look like someone else's. Learn to distinguish between what is available to you and what is genuinely aligned with your values, vision, and long-term objectives.

Most importantly, trust your capacity to grow. You don't need to have everything figured out before you begin, but you do need the courage to begin, the discipline to remain committed, and the humility to continue learning. Build a career that reflects not only what you're capable of achieving, but also the woman you desire to become in the process.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I believe one of the greatest challenges in the personal development and coaching industry is maintaining authenticity, integrity, and substance in a culture that often rewards visibility over value. Social media has created extraordinary opportunities to reach and inspire people, but it has also contributed to an environment where trends, viral moments, and promises of rapid transformation can sometimes overshadow the deeper work required for meaningful, lasting change.

Transformation is not simply about experiencing a breakthrough or becoming aware of a limiting belief. Awareness is an important beginning, but real transformation requires intentional action, behavioral change, and a willingness to examine the identities and patterns that shape how we live, lead, and make decisions. At the same time, I see tremendous opportunity in the growing interest in personal development, emotional well-being, leadership, and living more intentionally. People are seeking more than professional accomplishments or external success. Many are questioning whether the lives they've built truly reflect who they are and what matters most to them.

I believe the future of this industry belongs to practitioners who can balance inspiration with substance, innovation with human connection, and professional growth with ethical responsibility. Our responsibility is not simply to motivate people in the moment, but to equip them with the awareness, tools, and support to create meaningful change beyond the coaching experience.

Ultimately, I believe our greatest opportunity is to move the conversation beyond what people want to achieve and help them examine who they are becoming in the process.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity, integrity, honesty, and transparency are among the values I hold most closely in both my personal and professional life. I believe that how we conduct ourselves, how we treat others, and the principles we uphold when no one is watching speak volumes about our character.

I place tremendous value on meaningful relationships, mutual respect, and genuine human connection. Whether I'm working with a client, collaborating with a colleague, or engaging with someone in my personal life, I strive to create an environment where people feel respected, heard, and comfortable expressing who they are.

Another principle that guides me is respecting an individual's right to self-determination. I believe in sharing knowledge, offering perspective, and providing people with the information and tools they need to make informed decisions. My responsibility is not to determine what someone else's life should look like, but to help them recognize their options, exercise discernment, and make choices that align with their own values and aspirations.

Above all, I value being of genuine service without compromising my own authenticity or expecting others to compromise theirs. I believe we can support, encourage, and challenge one another while still honoring our differences, respecting personal boundaries, and allowing each person the freedom to define success and fulfillment for themselves.
