Her Story
About Dr. Misha
Dr. Spann believes influence is less about the position you hold and more about what you leave with people.
Her perspective has been shaped by years of navigating change, learning from different people and environments and discovering that growth rarely happens in a straight line. Those experiences have made her intentional about how she shows up for her teams, her community, and the people she encounters along the way.
For Misha, creating space for others is important. That may mean sharing knowledge, opening a door, making an introduction, encouraging someone to step into their next level, or simply being the person who sees possibility when someone else may not yet see it.
As she enters a new chapter, she is expanding her focus beyond what she can accomplish personally to what she can help build around her. She is ready for what’s next to build, transform, optimize and create meaningful impact.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Dr. Misha
01What do you attribute your success to?
My faith, my passion for what I do and my willingness to keep learning. My faith keeps me grounded, especially during seasons when things don't go according to plan. My passion keeps me engaged and reminds me why the work matters to me.
I've been shaped by the people and experiences I've encountered throughout my career. I've learned from different perspectives, different levels of leadership and even the difficult challenges. All of those things have contributed to the person and leader I am today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
"You’re a born leader., Lead well” That stayed with me because it made me realize that leadership comes with responsibility. When people are willing to listen to you, follow you, and learn from you, you have to be mindful of the example you're setting.
I also I never stopped learning. The moment you believe you know everything is probably the moment you stop growing and when you stop growing, you limit what you can bring to the growth of others.
I also believe in listening to perspectives different from my own. I think of it like watching a movie: you may be watching the same scene, but someone else may notice something you completely missed.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Know what room you belong in.
Not every room is meant for you, and that's okay. Find the spaces where your perspective, skills and voice belong, and don't be afraid to take your seat.
You don't have to know everything when you walk in. Be willing to learn, ask questions, work hard and stay true to who you are... have some thick skin and moisturize daily, because this industry will test you!
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Healthcare is changing incredibly quickly, There is understandable concern about what AI technology means for jobs but I also see tremendous opportunity.
Technology will change the work, but it won't replace the need for people who can think critically, solve problems, understand people, and see opportunities technology can't see.
I also think we're entering a time when people can create opportunities for themselves through consulting, entrepreneurship, and other healthcare services. Sometimes the opportunity isn't waiting for someone to say yes. Sometimes it's deciding that you're going to build something yourself.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
People matter to me, and so does the impact I leave on them as well as the company I'm representing.
I never want to lose sight of the person behind the position, title, numbers, or work. Faith is also important to me. Faith isn't always a straight line, but I believe you have to stay rooted in it, especially when life doesn't make sense.
I also deeply value sisterhood having people around me who will celebrate with me, challenge me, pray with me and tell me the truth when I need to hear it.
