Her Story
About Dr
I have been in the dentistry field for almost 9 years, and I became a practice owner about 8 and a half months ago after working as an associate dentist. In my current role, I provide dental care to all my patients and oversee and manage the operations of the entire facility. What inspired me to get into this field was growing up without dental care and having a few struggles of my own with dentistry. I felt like I would be a good candidate, a good provider for other patients with similar situations, and I could care for them in a compassionate way based off of my own past experience. My most notable professional achievement so far is becoming a practice owner. I have three boys who are 6, 3, and 3 months old, and doing this for my children is one of the things that drives me. I attribute my success to my faith, having a strong support system, being perseverant and persevering despite having setbacks, being committed to my dreams, and doing it for my children.

Ten minutes with Dr
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my faith, having a strong support system, and being perseverant - persevering despite having setbacks. I'm committed to my dreams and I keep pushing forward. The other thing is doing it for my children, which I have 3 children. They motivate me to keep going and to achieve my goals, even when things get difficult.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is that it's a marathon, not a sprint. You have to pace yourself and understand that success takes time. The other piece of advice that has really stuck with me is that you get as much out of it as you're willing to put in. Your effort and commitment directly determine what you'll achieve in your career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this field is to find good mentors. Lean on them and utilize their experience and past mistakes to circumvent new ones for yourself. Learning from those who have gone before you can help you avoid making the same mistakes and accelerate your own success.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in my field is that it's a people industry, and people fear dentists or having to have dental work done generally. But the opportunity for me is to win them over through slowing down to speed up, if you will. I take my time, listen to their concerns, and make sure that we address that initial concern, as opposed to overwhelming them with everything else that needs to be done. By focusing on their immediate fears and building trust, I can help patients overcome their anxiety about dental care.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Teamwork is really important to me - it's important for my family environment and in the office. As it relates to my patients, caring for them in a compassionate way and uniquely is a core value. Patient education is very important, and just being educated in general are high values for me. Having a foundation of faith helps get me through hard times. Strong communication skills and soft skills are also critical - they say soft skills are almost more important than technical skills. I really focus on relationship skills and connecting with people on a personal level.
