Dr. Glynis Leigh Castaneda, DO, MS, is a dedicated osteopathic physician whose academic journey reflects both exceptional commitment and resilience. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kansas City University in May 2024, following the completion of her Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences at the same institution in 2020. Before pursuing graduate studies, she graduated from the University of Kansas in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology on the pre-medicine track. At just 28 years old, Dr. Castaneda has already built a strong foundation in biomedical science and patient-centered care.

Dr. Castaneda’s personal story is a testament to perseverance. Surviving three serious car accidents that nearly claimed her life, she uses her experiences to inspire others to overcome adversity and pursue their aspirations with determination. Her resilience has shaped her compassionate approach to medicine and mentorship, motivating her to support individuals who face obstacles on their path to personal and professional growth.

Beyond her academic and professional achievements, Dr. Castaneda is deeply committed to giving back to her community. She is an enthusiastic supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and advocates for mentorship programs that provide guidance and nurturing to children in need, believing firmly in the power of community to shape brighter futures. She is also passionate about raising awareness for missing Indigenous people. Outside of her professional and volunteer endeavors, she enjoys spending time with her family—including her parents and two brothers—and cherishes moments with her two Great Danes, whether outdoors or relaxing with a Netflix show. She also loves cooking and socializing, grounding her busy life in the joy of meaningful connections.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the incredible support system I am fortunate to have. My family—and the “bonus family” I have found in my closest friends—have been my foundation, guiding me through difficult times with unwavering love, honesty, and encouragement. Their support without judgment has allowed me to grow, heal, and push forward, even when circumstances felt overwhelming.

I also believe that true success begins with an internal drive. My passion for my goals and my dedication to succeeding for myself have been essential. Staying grounded in my own purpose and holding myself accountable have helped me stay resilient, focused, and committed to becoming the best version of who I aspire to be.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women entering this industry that there will always be people who say you can’t, you won’t, or you’ll never achieve what you’re striving for. Those voices are simply roadblocks, not realities. Stay true to your path, trust in your abilities, and keep moving forward despite the doubts of others. In time, those same people will be the ones asking, “How did you do that?”—because you stayed committed to your goals and believed in your own potential.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life center around compassion, connection, and purpose. I make it a priority to spend quality time with the people and beings who ground me—my parents, my two brothers, and my two Great Danes. Whether we’re outdoors, relaxing with a good show, cooking together, or simply enjoying each other’s company, these moments remind me of what truly matters and keep me balanced.

Service and advocacy are also core to who I am. I care deeply about organizations and efforts that uplift others, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and community mentorship programs that provide guidance, stability, and hope for children who need nurturing support. Creating pathways for a better future—especially for vulnerable or overlooked populations—is something I feel deeply called to contribute to.

Additionally, I am passionate about raising awareness for missing Indigenous people and supporting initiatives that seek justice, visibility, and protection for Indigenous communities. These values—compassion, advocacy, and human connection—guide the way I show up every day, both as a professional and as a person.
