Her Story
About Dr. Katy
I have spent 25 years in the education field, with a career path that began in education and evolved into educational leadership. Throughout my career, I've held a number of different administrative roles, including assistant principal, principal, and curriculum supervisor. Each of these roles has informed what I'm doing now, which is educational consulting. My day-to-day work is a little different than working within a school building or district setting. It entails collaborative meetings, strategic planning, needs assessment, and data literacy work. It also includes a ton of professional development and professional learning. I would say my most notable professional achievement is getting to a director level and maintaining that position, seeing some of the growth that we were able to see in some challenging times as well as challenging demographic settings. I hold a doctoral degree and have my letter of eligibility for superintendent, which is as accomplished in the education field as you can be. I tried to be prepared with my education and certifications throughout my career.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Dr. Katy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say support family, intrinsic interest, having children of my own, and continuing to kind of envision these possibilities and the success that can be, as much as I can for being in educational leadership.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I think it's learn from your mistakes, and learn from any kind of perceived failure or setback. It's a learning experience, and it's not a reason to stop, it's a reason to keep trying. Put it in your mental rolodex, and make it something that can be a learning experience. It has to do with grit and perseverance and kind of growth mindset.
