Her Story
About Dr. Michole
I began my healthcare career in 2001 as a medical assistant and advanced into leadership roles before becoming a licensed practical nurse. After about a year of nursing, I was given an opportunity to teach, and that's where I found my true calling. I earned my Bachelor's in Healthcare Management and spent several years in health administration, serving as a memory care director and then as an executive director at an assisted living facility. But education remained my passion, so I went back to school to earn my Master's in Adult Education, followed by my Doctorate in Health Administration, which I completed on April 26th. Throughout this journey, I was a single mother working full-time while being a full-time student, which gives me a unique perspective and connection with my students who are facing similar challenges. Today, I serve as Program Director of Medical Assistance and Health Medical Administrative Services Program and Assistant Director of Education for a college. My days involve overseeing programs, managing retention and attrition numbers, hiring and training new instructors, conducting services, participating in corporate calls about campus programs and compliance, and providing crucial support services to students including academic advisement, motivation, and helping them find externships. What I'm most proud of is being able to motivate and encourage my students by sharing my own story of starting as a medical assistant and working my way up to a doctorate degree while being a single parent, showing them that it doesn't matter when you start, as long as you finish.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received was that it doesn't matter when you start, as long as you finish. I try to instill that in my students, especially since many of them are older and starting their careers later in life. Life situations happen and there will be roadblocks, but you have to stay motivated, don't stop, stay the course, and remember your why. This advice has stayed with me throughout my journey, especially as I balanced being a single mother, working full-time, and being a full-time student while earning my degrees.
