Her Story

About Dr. Rochelle

Rochelle MinceyThompson, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist and consultant based in Washington, DC. For seven and a half years she has led R. M. Thompson & Co., delivering clinical psychology services to professional and collegiate sports teams such as the Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, and University of Maryland Terps. After leaving corporate work, she built her practice on a foundation of curiosity, perseverance, vision, and spiritual grounding in faith. Raised in the foster care system and later by her grandmother without both parents present, she learned early to advocate for herself and to move forward despite fear. She credits negativity from others as a lifelong motivator to prove she can succeed. Rochelle emphasizes integrity in safeguarding clients' vulnerabilities, discipline to show up on difficult days, compassion, empathy, and faith. She advises young women entering the field to do it scared, recognize they belong in the room, and persevere past imposter syndrome.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Dr. Rochelle

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to always being curious, perseverance, having vision, and being spiritually grounded in faith. I had to do everything scared as I was raised in foster care and by my grandmother, learning to advocate for myself alone.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice came from negativity - people saying I couldn't do this fueled me to prove them wrong and say I can do this. It has been a motivator my whole life.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Do it scared. You belong in the room just as well. Get rid of imposter syndrome by persevering beyond it.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is really important because I keep other people's secrets and vulnerable parts of them. Discipline is key because there are difficult days but I show up. Compassion and empathy along with being grounded in faith.
