Her Interview

Ten minutes with Dr. Sanja

01What do you attribute your success to?

I have to say that my greatest inspiration is my mother. Growing up, I witnessed her endure countless struggles, yet her unwavering dedication to excellence left a profound impact on me. This commitment to quality is something I aim to carry forward in all my endeavors. Her challenges and illnesses fueled my passion for healthcare, driving me to ensure everyone has access to the essential resources they need to thrive. Additionally, I want to express gratitude to my husband for his steadfast support.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The most valuable career advice I ever received was from my inspiring former pastor, my mentor, and friend Rev. Dr. Arnett Rogiers. He taught me that while not everyone may recognize the excellence I strive for, it is crucial to stay true to my vision. He wisely said, "Chickens don't fly with eagles; don't let others’ insecurities hinder your journey." His encouragement to shake off negativity and keep pursuing my dreams has stayed with me, igniting my passion to move confidently toward what I believe God has placed in my heart.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Keep the faith; that is my strongest advice to you. You may get knocked down, but like a bobblehead, you must keep bouncing back. Don’t hesitate to shake the dust from your feet; embrace Matthew 10:14, which encourages us to move on if faced with rejection. No matter the struggle you’re experiencing, refuse to believe that it will crush you.  One of my guiding mottos is, "Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man, this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible.'" This belief inspires me every day. I also hold onto the wisdom in Colossians 3:23: do everything as if you are working for God, not for man. Uphold a spirit of excellence, no matter who opposes you or what obstacles you encounter. Keep moving forward with unwavering determination.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In every dimension of life, you will have challenges and incidents of being misunderstood. Tell yourself, I can be challenged but I will not be conquered! It can become exhausting but if you trust in God, if you put faith in God, that feeling can turn into energy. Energy to help you move towards success and the path God has for you.  Many ask why I choose to stay in the nonprofit sector, especially given my qualifications and the lucrative options available elsewhere. My unwavering commitment to service, inspired by my mother's resilience and dedication to excellence, fuels my passion. Everything I pursue is guided by a relentless quest for excellence. Beyond these leadership roles, I am dedicated to training churches across Virginia, emphasizing the critical importance of effective leadership and stewardship in our community. Together, we can create a lasting and transformative impact!

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I am fueled by unwavering values of integrity, respect, compassion, and collaboration in all areas of my life. I actively support my students and community members who seek guidance, as I believe everyone deserves to feel valued and empowered. I am committed to providing the resources they need to achieve their aspirations. My enthusiasm for fostering unity and driving positive change motivates me, and I am eager to embark on this fulfilling journey as a servant. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter future for all!
