Dr. Stacey A. Donaldson

Dr. Stacey Donaldson, PhD, NBCT, is an Associate Professor at Belhaven University, where she brings over a decade of experience in instructional design, educational technology, and TESOL. With a PhD in Educational/Instructional Technology from Walden University, she has served in multiple leadership roles at Belhaven, including Director of Instructional Design and Director of Educational Technology & TESOL. Her work focuses on empowering educators through innovative instructional strategies, culturally responsive teaching, and the integration of technology to enhance learning outcomes.
A National Board Certified Teacher and a 2009 National Network of State Teachers of the Year (NNSTOY) honoree, Dr. Donaldson is a recognized leader in the field of teacher preparation and English learner education. She actively contributes to the broader educational community through her involvement with AMTESOL and other professional networks, regularly presenting on best practices in language acquisition, inclusive curriculum design, and community-engaged learning. Her leadership has been instrumental in shaping meaningful professional development experiences and fostering academic excellence.
Passionate about equity and access in education, Dr. Donaldson also serves as a founding member of Jackson Women for Good, demonstrating her commitment to service and community engagement. She champions collaborative learning environments where student success is at the center, drawing on her extensive background in program development and instructional design. Whether mentoring future educators or building bridges between research and practice, she is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of impactful, reflective practitioners.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my faith, the unwavering support of my family, and a strong commitment to hard work. Each has played a vital role in shaping my journey and sustaining me through both challenges and achievements.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to be an active member of a learning community. It’s a space where you not only continue to grow and learn from others but also have the opportunity to mentor and uplift those around you.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to always be the best version of yourself. Stay true to who you are, be guided by your faith, and lead with integrity. Never lose sight of your values, and always aim for excellence in everything you do.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest truths about education is that there is always opportunity—whether through innovation, expanding access, or addressing equity gaps. While challenges like shifting policies, funding constraints, and adapting to new technologies persist, they also create space for growth, creativity, and meaningful change. Educators have the unique opportunity to shape lives and communities every single day.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In both my work and personal life, relationships are foundational. I believe in building strong, authentic connections based on trust, respect, and mutual support. Whether collaborating with colleagues, mentoring students, or engaging with the community, having solid relationships creates the foundation for meaningful impact and lasting success.
