Dr. Stacy Shepard
Dr. Stacy Shepard is an award-winning educational leader, empowerment strategist, and visionary founder and CEO of AriseNOW, a global life coaching and empowerment organization dedicated to helping women boldly step into their purpose and maximize their full potential.
Her leadership journey has been driven by a deep commitment to service, impact, and ensuring that authentic, representative voices are present at decision-making tables—voices that truly understand and advocate for the realities within classrooms. She leads with a focus on academic excellence, equity, and transformational outcomes for both students and educators, while remaining deeply committed to serving underserved communities.
In addition to her role as a principal, Dr. Shepard is the founder of SheLeads Educational Consulting, where she mentors and coaches aspiring leaders—particularly women—on their path to leadership. Her impact is reflected in the success of those she has guided, many of whom have advanced into leadership roles and expanded their own influence within education.
A breast cancer survivor, now approaching four years cancer-free, Dr. Shepard transformed her personal journey into purpose through the creation of AriseNOW. While navigating treatment, leading a school, and raising her two children, she recognized a powerful truth: too many women delay or diminish their goals due to life’s demands. Through coaching, speaking, and authorship—including her book Finding Beauty in Shattered Glass and her podcast A Note From the Principal’s Desk—she empowers women to pursue their goals unapologetically and without limitation.
Dr. Shepard’s message is clear: success is not defined by obstacles, but by the courage to begin and the resilience to keep going. Through her work, she continues to inspire audiences nationwide, demonstrating that when purpose and perseverance align, nothing is unattainable.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to perseverance, purpose, and my unwavering faith in God.
No matter what I’ve faced, I made a decision early on that quitting would never be an option. That mindset carried me through one of the most challenging seasons of my life—walking through breast cancer while leading a school, raising my two children, and continuing to pour into and empower women. It wasn’t easy, but I kept showing up. I kept going.
I am a firm believer that our testimony carries power. What we go through is not just for us—it’s meant to help set others free. That belief has grounded me in every season and reminds me that there is purpose attached to everything I’ve endured.
In education, what keeps me going—especially after difficult conversations or challenging moments—is the impact. I lead with heart, and I know the difference that makes in the life of a child. For many of the scholars I serve, relationships matter. Presence matters. Consistency matters. And I carry the responsibility of knowing that if I step away, there’s no guarantee they will encounter someone who will love, support, and advocate for them in the same way. That alone keeps me committed to the work.
As an entrepreneur, the journey comes with its own set of challenges. There are days when it would be easier to walk away. But what keeps me grounded is my purpose and the deep love I have for women. I genuinely want to see women win—in every area of their lives—and that passion fuels me even on the hardest days.
At the core of it all, I had to stay rooted in something greater than myself—my faith, my beliefs, and the calling that was placed on my life. I often say, you will never know how good it can get if you quit or if you never start. The only true failure is choosing not to begin.
My success is not just about what I’ve achieved, but about the decision to keep going, to stay aligned with my purpose, and to trust God through every step of the journey.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received came from my professor, Dr. Harrington Austin, who shared that the greatest teacher in life is experience. She explained that while there is value in earning multiple degrees, nothing truly prepares you for the real world like lived experience.
She encouraged us to take a different approach—earn a degree, step into the workforce, gain experience, and then return for further education if desired. That perspective was new to me at the time, but it ultimately became the path I followed.
That advice shaped my entire career. It allowed me to bring real-world insight into my work, rather than relying solely on theory, and positioned me to lead and serve with authenticity, depth, and practical understanding.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My biggest advice to young women is this: you will never know how good it can get if you quit.
In both education and entrepreneurship, it’s easy to get distracted by what you see on social media. You’re constantly exposed to highlight reels—people who seem to achieve success overnight, gain recognition quickly, or make millions. But what you don’t see is the process. You don’t see the setbacks, the discipline, the sacrifices, or the years it took to get there.
That can create a false sense of expectation, especially for younger women who are seeking immediate results. And when that initial excitement fades—as it always does—you have to be grounded in something deeper. Without that foundation, it’s easy to lose your passion, your focus, and your drive for the very thing you once worked so hard to pursue.
None of the roles I’ve held have provided instant gratification. Whether in education or entrepreneurship, the work requires consistency, resilience, and purpose. You have to go back to the question: Why did I start in the first place?
Entrepreneurship, in particular, is not easy. There are days I want to quit. But what keeps me going is my purpose and the deep love I have for women. I genuinely want to see every woman win, and that commitment keeps me pushing forward.
What also grounds me is knowing my heart and the impact I am making—especially in the lives of young people. That kind of impact doesn’t happen overnight, but it matters.
So my advice is simple: get grounded in something—your purpose, your faith, your “why.” Because when things get hard, and they will, that foundation is what will keep you going.
And if you quit, you’ll never know just how good it could have been.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in education today is the shift we’re seeing in leadership representation. What was once a predominantly female profession is increasingly seeing fewer women’s voices at the leadership table. As a result, there is a growing need to ensure that those voices—grounded in lived experience and classroom reality—are not only present, but influential in decision-making.
That need is what led me to found SheLeads Educational Consulting. My goal is to support and coach educators, particularly women, who aspire to step into leadership roles. It’s important that we continue to cultivate leaders who can authentically advocate for what is happening in classrooms and within school communities.
At the same time, this challenge presents a powerful opportunity. By intentionally developing and empowering women, we can increase representation and impact at the leadership level. I’ve had the privilege of coaching several women through this journey, with nine now serving as assistant principals or principals, and others going on to launch their own schools.
For me, the work is about more than leadership—it’s about ensuring that the voices shaping education truly reflect and represent the communities they serve.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that ground me are perseverance, faith, and a deep commitment to empowering others.
I believe you have to be anchored in something greater than yourself—your beliefs, your faith, and a genuine desire to make an impact. For me, faith is the foundation. It’s what sustains me in every season and reminds me that purpose is always bigger than the challenges I face.
I am a firm believer that our testimony carries power. What we go through is not just for us—it’s meant to help others heal, grow, and be set free. That understanding shapes how I lead, how I show up, and how I serve.
At the core of everything I do is a desire to see women win. Not just succeed on the surface, but truly walk in everything they’ve been called to be. That passion fuels my work and keeps me going, even on the days when entrepreneurship feels overwhelming and quitting seems easier.
I also stay grounded in the impact I’m making—especially in the lives of young people. Knowing that my presence, my leadership, and my voice can influence a child’s future is something I never take lightly.
I believe wholeheartedly that nothing is unattainable. The only true failure is never starting at all. That’s why I often say, you will never know how good it can get if you quit.
Even in the hardest moments, I return to my “why”—my faith, my purpose, and the people I’m called to serve. That’s what keeps me rooted, and that’s what keeps me moving forward.
