About Dr. Tamara
I am an executive communication coach and public speaking college professor. As a professor for over 15 years, my goal is to help students communicate clearly and effectively, with confidence, clarity, assertiveness, and authority. I do the same as an executive coach for professionals in high-stakes situations like interviews, presentations, and meetings. My notable achievement is becoming president of the Arkansas Community Colleges Conference Board in 2024, overseeing the biggest community college conference in Arkansas with 21 board members at executive levels, and leading the 2025 conference for three days.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My determination and tenacity, along with inspiration from my son. I am originally from St. Lucia and wanted to do something meaningful. My son inspired me to work hard, focus on goals, and build a legacy. I am a go-getter who doesn't give up.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
A former boss told me I am much more capable than I believe I am and can achieve anything. He emphasized my value and that I should never let my race, being an international woman, or limitations get in the way. Embrace perceived disadvantages as advantages.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Know your value and worth. Know that you are capable. Go all in and give it your all. Understand success isn't linear and there will be highs and lows. Every effort is progress. Communication is crucial, and you bring great value by helping professionals communicate more effectively.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Staying the course through ups and downs, slow periods, and self-doubt. Business takes time to take off. Not giving up when things move slower than expected or when not getting expected traction or responses.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, integrity, and following through on what you say you are going to do. Showing up for myself and others every day. Waking up determined to be the best version of myself and be productive.
