Her Story

About Eboni

I have been with the University of Alabama at Birmingham for 18 years, currently serving as a Business Officer II. My main areas of expertise include finance, research administration, management, leadership, organizational skills, and working with a team. I completed my Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources from UAB in 2014, and went on to earn my Master's of Business Administration from the same institution in 2023. Most recently, I completed the Developing Emerging Administrative Leader program at UAB. My most notable professional achievement has been my loyalty and ability to advance in my career path. As a single mom, my son has been my motivator - he motivated me to want better so I can provide more for him. Outside of work, I also prepare tax returns, and I enjoy traveling, spending time with family, and I recently started training for a marathon, which is one of my goals to complete in 2026.

Ten minutes with Eboni

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say my son - he was my motivator. Being a single mom motivated me to want better, so I can provide more for him. He's 23 now, and he's been the driving force behind my career advancement and my desire to achieve more professionally. That motivation to give him a better life has pushed me to pursue my education, advance in my career, and continue growing as a professional.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say, stay the course. Always be persistent and consistent. And remember to let your work be a reflection of who you are. Make sure that it's accurate and concise. And I would say, keep reaching for the stars. Your work is attached to you, so make sure it represents you well.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Previously, working with research administration, that role is kind of scary for our researchers because due to the current administration, it's very unpredictable right now. But on the opportunity side, there's always opportunities to advance in finance and leadership roles. I'm always interested in learning more and trying to grow and advance, because I don't want to remain stagnant in a role. For me, I like to learn, so whenever there's an opportunity to learn more, I'm always interested.
