Her Story

About Ebony

After 20 years in education, I discovered my passion for real estate by watching HGTV shows like House Hunters and seeing how agents worked with clients. When my husband and I went through the process of renting, selling, and buying our first home, I experienced frustrations and even cried tears during the journey. I realized it doesn't have to be like this for first-time homebuyers - it should be fun, rewarding, exciting, and stress-free. I knew I could help people through this process by being proactive rather than reactive. My husband believed in me and funded my real estate education. I got my license and started with a god-sister as my first client for a lease, then she bought a year or two later. My second client was a former education co-worker. Since then, God has continued to bless me and my business keeps growing. I'm a people person who focuses on how I would want to be treated as a client and what God expects of me as a realtor. My clients become my family, and they trust me enough to refer their own family and friends. I specialize in first-time homebuyers, helping people who thought they could never own a home achieve that dream. I still do some education work, but real estate is now my primary focus.

Ten minutes with Ebony

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my faith in God. That's the only thing I can attribute it to. When you put Him first, anything that you pursue, He aligns it for you. I've accomplished a lot in 4 years in real estate, and I attribute that all to, first, God, and then my husband, who has always supported me in this real estate journey.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to put God first, and all things will be added onto that. When you put Him number one, anything that you pursue, He aligns it for you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women entering real estate to stay prayed up and continue focusing on Jesus Christ as your Savior. But remember that faith without works is dead. So as you believe in God and trust Him to put things in place for you, make sure that you're doing everything that He allows and expects you to do. Do those things that He calls you to do in your work, so that He can make manifest all the things He promises you.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges I face in real estate right now are the economy, which definitely impacts whether or not people are choosing to buy or sell, and pushback from clients. A lot of times, people are afraid to listen to what we tell them as professionals because social media can be a booger. What they see on social media has a big impact on what they think about what real estate is, or what buying and selling looks like. So hearing a realtor tell them something different can be a bit of a challenge.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are prayer, my spouse, and family, in that order. Prayer comes first, then my spouse, then family.
