About Ebony
I work at the University of Houston Clear Lake in Houston, Texas, a public institution with undergraduate and graduate students. As Manager of Assessment for the Division of Student Affairs, I manage assessment for roughly 12 departments, going over their data, making sure that the students are engaged and participating in activities, and ensuring that the program learning outcomes are matching what the directors are wanting. Previously, I was in basic needs, where my team and I were awarded a million dollar grant from the Department of Education. We assisted students with basic needs - they would come to the office if they needed assistance with healthcare, sometimes they just didn't have the money to cover the costs, sometimes they needed assistance with rent, maybe travel so I would give out gas vouchers, food vouchers, sometimes the electricity went out so we would assist in those ways as well. I made sure we were able to meet the students' basic needs so that they were still able to stay enrolled in school. I also covered the pantry that was on campus, making sure that it was fully stocked, and I had my student staff serve the students that were coming in and requesting food items. We used to host food distributions on campus for the students. While my role is a little different now since I'm in data, I still get to work with students and tell their story and see how we can serve them best. I also have a background in counseling, and I assisted a lot of students that went through the shooting, counseling those students and their families.
