About Edna

Edna Aurelus is the Director of Graduate Studies at Wagner College in Staten Island, New York. She has held this administrative position since 2023, following her tenure and promotion in 2021. Aurelus began teaching in higher education in August 2015 and has accumulated over 21 years of experience in nursing since 2005. Her expertise encompasses psychiatric mental health, primary care, and global health. She earned her DNP and a postdoc certificate in psychiatric mental health from ASU. In addition to her teaching and leadership roles, Aurelus serves as an ACEN ERP Panel Surveyor, conducting site visits to help improve nursing programs, and is a member of the NPA Staten Island Branch. She attributes her professional success to her strong work ethic, shaped by her parents, and maintains a focus on student outcomes, particularly in helping students master complex topics like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I am a very spiritual person, and I believe in God, and I owe it all to that. My parents, especially my mom who stressed work ethics and independence, and my dad who worked hard. Their guidance shaped my work ethic and success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Enjoy the moment and practice self-care. Make sure you are mentally and physically balanced. Relax, dance, laugh, and love life.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Yearn for learning, never stop learning. Be curious and use that to improve your field. Update your brand and be the best you can.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Work ethics, independence, autonomy, mutual respect, and transparency in leadership. My mom taught me to work hard to be independent.
