Ten minutes with Edora
01What do you attribute your success to?
I love being part of painting the picture on the canvas. And when there’s a smudge on that canvas, I get to help bring the picture into focus so the vision comes through clearly again. At my core, I’m a problem solver. I don’t do it for recognition — I do it because lifting others up brings me joy, whether that’s an entire company or a single leader who needs support.
I genuinely enjoy my work, and I genuinely enjoy people. I’ve been blessed with the ability to spot risks before they surface, and that gift has guided me throughout my career. People sometimes ask how I’ve stayed in this field for so many years, and the answer is simple: I love what I do.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
You don't have to sit at the top to be a leader. It's a quote that I kept on my wall, because you have the ability to lead from the seat that you are in.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Learn the field. There's no need to be in a hurry. Learn the field but find your target - something I didn't do early enough. I slowly navigated into learning who I was and what I was good at, and it served me well, but I didn't find that landing place early enough (for me). While I am a very strong leader, I didn't know that early in my career. What I learned later was when I walked into a room there was an understanding that I had already performed my due diligence.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Change in technology and the introduction of AI. Being able to do things faster, smarter, better, but still be able to mitigate the risk. You can introduce technology, but is technology skipping over the risk, or is it tuned just right to make sure that the company is efficient? AI is certainly helping, but we are still testing things related to AI. The use of Copilot probably is front stage for some of the things that I do. It gives me an opportunity to test scenarios faster. For example, I was able to take an Excel sheet that had a macro formula in it, put it in AI, and had AI help me with where the errors occurred. I was able to get it completed within an hour, whereas I've reached out to other resources before. Copilot has been a game changer, and AI is still being tested to learn how we can use it and how it can help us be a bit more efficient.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity and high morals. Coming from someone who has worked in internal controls, risk, compliance, and alongside audit for many years, a high level of integrity is needed to operate in these spaces. If you walk that life daily, it's not hard to go to work every day, and allow those values to transcend.
